Arizona Coordinator's Letter #7
ARIZONA UPDATE FOR NOV. 2nd

Dear Fellow Runners and Volunteers:

Thank you for your patience, flexibility and commitment as we finalize the planning. The flag will arrive in Arizona in just 4 days. We will be ready!

We hope this answers some of your questions. More detailed information will follow shortly but this is our basic plan.

We are setting up STAGING AREAS along the route. (The exact locations will be announced tomorrow) Runners should plan on arriving at their staging area at least a half hour early. The staging areas will serve as a meeting point for runners to gather and await the flag. Please bring your family, friends and entire community to help line the route and cheer the flag on. When the flag approaches, all runners should be ready to get into the transportation vans or take the flag handoff. (a revised running order will be announced shortly) The Driver will let the runner know the mileage and when to exchange the flag with the next runner. If anyone in your running group does not show up at the staging area, please arrange how that person’s miles will be divided among the available runners. When everyone in your group is done running their segment, the vans will return you to your initial staging area where your vehicles are parked.

We can’t thank you enough for all your support and enthusiasm. Please get the word out.

  • Print the route off the internet and have it published in the paper.
  • Make signs and banners to wave along the route.
  • Set up some food and water at a staging area near you.
  • Have a gas station along the route donate gas for the transportation vans.
Anything your group or organization can do to help is welcome and appreciated.

As the flag travels across our great country we remember those who lost their lives on September 11th. Together we can make this flag run an unforgettable event.

THANK YOU ALL,

Heather Buxton and Your Arizona Coordinating Team

I live in Northern Kentucky and am a furloughed pilot for American Airlines. Although I live so far from your wonderful state I am very eager to help. I could use your help and suggestions in manning the staging areas along the route. Please contact me if you can be of assistance.
