The route continues toward Glendale and the West side takes over from this point.
ATTENTION RUNNERS:
- YOU MUST BE AT YOUR STAGING AREA AT LEAST 30 MINUTES BEFORE THE SCHEDULED TIME. (UNLESS YOU WERE ASSIGNED A SPECIFIC STARTING AREA BY THE RUNNING COORDINATOR.) The staging areas will serve as a meeting point for runners and supporters to gather and await the flag. You should go to the staging area that is EAST of where you want to run. That way the van can pick you up and you can ride until it is your turn to run. When you are finished you will be dropped off back at your staging area.
- YOU MUST BRING A SIGNED RUNNERS WAIVER WITH YOU. (this can be found at http://www.flagrun2001.org/waiver.html)
- Please bring your family, friends and entire community to help line the route and cheer the flag on. We need as much support as we can get. (especially in the middle of the night)
- When the flag approaches, all runners should be ready to get into the transportation vans or take the flag handoff. (Check the runners list to see where you should start running - you may have to ride in the van for a bit until it is your turn) The Driver will let the runner know the mileage and when to exchange the flag with the next runner.
- If anyone in your running group does not show up at the staging area, please arrange how that person’s miles will be divided among the available runners.
- When everyone in your group is done running their segment, the vans will return you to your initial staging area where your vehicles are parked.
- Please keep in mind that this is a huge event and a lot of people want to be involved. Runners will show up even if they aren’t scheduled to run. This is great! PLEASE SHARE THE FLAG WITH EVERYONE! (scheduled or not scheduled) We want all our patriotic runners to have an unforgettable experience.
- Those of you running at night will wear a reflective vest. Some vests are available but if you have one, please bring it along.
- The RV will carry the official T-shirt which is available for a $15.00 donation.
The RV will also carry some water but anything you could bring and donate at the staging area would be appreciated.
- Runners are encouraged to wear shirts that are patriotic, show company affiliation (ex. Airline workers, police, fire etc.) or bear their groups name. Dark shorts or pants are recommended (black or blue etc.)
*West Side runners arrive at your coordinated spot 30 minutes prior to the flags arrival time. You should have been assigned a spot by the West Side Running Coordinator.
WHAT YOU CAN DO TO HELP:
- we are still collecting gas money for the support vans. If you own a station or know someone who does along the route that could help, we would be extremely grateful.
- Print the route off the internet and have it published in the paper or hang signs up around the community alerting others to this wonderful event.
- Make signs and banners to wave along the route.
- Set up some food and water at a staging area near you.
- Anything your group or organization can do to help is welcome and appreciated.
As the flag travels across our great country we remember those who lost their lives on September 11th. Together we can make this flag run an unforgettable event.
HAVE FUN AND ENJOY EVERY MINUTE. GOD BLESS ARIZONA!
THANK YOU ALL,
Your Arizona Coordination Team
