Oklahoma Coordinator's Letter #3
Coordinator Letter #3 – October 24, 2001

Greetings to All Runners and Volunteers,

Your response has been overwhelming! We are so thankful to be part of such an incredible group of people! Of course, it has caused a little delay with assigning runners. Please be patient. Please avoid emails/calls with requests for information if at all possible. Stay with us – it will be out early tomorrow a.m.

We still have people signing up to run! That’s great and everyone can run! We are unable to assign anyone who signed up after this morning (10/24) to a specific staging area. We ask that those individuals find a staging area away from the metro area if possible and join us. If that is not possible, join us where you need to along the route. Everyone needs to bring the signed release form to the staging area (this form is available through the main web site) and give it to the Staging Area Captain.

Donations/Contributions can also be presented to the Staging Area Captain upon arrival. Check main web site for further information.

Runners are encouraged to wear red, white, and blue. Let’s show our true colors throughout the state of Oklahoma! Watch the weather for best attire – especially if you will be running at night. Some reflective vests are available. If you have one, please bring it along. Safety is extremely important!

SPECIFIC NEEDS:

  1. We are still collecting gas money for RV/support vehicles. If you own a station or know someone who does along the route that could help, we would be extremely grateful.
  2. We could use a couple more RV drivers. National Coordinators require local drivers at night, but it would be great if we had enough to take over day shift as well. The RV is small and requires no CDL.
  3. Out-of-State Runners – We still have those hotel rooms. You must let me know by tomorrow p.m. (once you’ve seen your assignment) so I can contact sponsors. Please let me know what night you would like the room for as well.
  4. Staging Area Assistance is needed in some areas. You can contact Dave at Vandal77@IdahoVandals.com if you would like to support this aspect of the run.
  5. EMERGENCY! We need vehicles to transport runners throughout the different legs from staging areas and back to staging areas. This could be church vans, school vans, buses, vans right off the lot, etc. We are open to your ideas – This is major! Each vehicle would need a driver that could commit to a few hours during that leg – would work to keep you in your own area! Please contact Susan at bweaver@mail.provalue.net to help in this area.

Your OK Coordinating Team – Dave, Fritz, Tim, (Thanks Guys!) and Susan
