FlagRun

American Airlines and United Airlines are jointly organizing a run to commemorate the tragic events of Sept. 11. The run will relay a United States flag from Boston, through New York and Washington, D.C. and on to Los Angeles. They are currently looking for runners and other volunteers to participate in the portion of the event through New Mexico. My wife -- an American Airlines flight attendant -- is one of several N.M. coordinators and she asked that I see if I could inform folks at the Lab who may be interested in participating since volunteers do not have to be AA or UA employees.

The link to the organization site is at http://www.flagrun2001.org/ online. The site has the expected route and schedule (note that the flag was scheduled to leave Boston today; one month after the attacks) as well as more detailed information on the event, forms for volunteering, etc. The coordinators are working on safety (police) and health (EMTs, etc.) support and the Governor's office has been contacted to invite Governor Johnson to participate. Please review the Web site and take the appropriate steps if you have an interest in participating in this event.

We apologize for the short notice, but this event is being planned in "real time" to be accomplished within the hoped for schedule (i.e, leave Boston one month after the attacks; arrive in Los Angeles on Veterans' Day-- a month later).
