Message for SC Volunteers and Runners

Hi folks,

WOW !!! Things are comming together. Just a few notes:

  1. Please be sure you signed up on the www.flagrun2001.org site. Some of you have directly contacted me through my e-mail. The site is much better. I am goint to start putting people in different sections of the state soon and the section leads will need the information that is accessable through the web site.

  2. Time Line: I expect the flag to arrive at the North/South Carolina border on October 18th at 8:00 a.m. It will travel along Hwy 1 the entire way until finishing off at the South Carolina/Georgia border on October 19th at 4:00 p.m.
    • The flag will in Camden about 5-6 p.m.
    • The flag will be in Columbia at 11:00 p.m.
    • The flag will be in Aiken about 1:00 p.m.
That is a pretty good guess at this point.

  3. Please let me know when you are available to run and what section you could help out with. You can use my e-mail for this: rguilford@sc.rr.com just be sure you have registered at the flagrun2001.org site.

If you want to run together that would be great. Just let me know. I will try to work things out. I will pass this information to each section lead and he/she will contact you about the specific details of you run.

  4. Support: Expect 2x38' motor homes. Expect food, water, gatorade, etc. A group of runners will be in the motor home waiting thier turn to run. I am lining up transportation to get the runners from point to point along the route. I will have more later, but expect to meet as groups and be taken to your starting points and returned.

We should have Highway Patrol escort the entire way.

  5. Media. Expect it to start pretty heavily tomorrow (the first day of the run), and locally on Wednesday. Events are being planned along the route in Camden and Columbia when the flag passes through.

  6. Keep passing the word to your friends.

Thank you for your support and the e-mail I have received. This is going to be a truly great event. I will write again tomorrow.

    Take care,

Rich Guilford SC Flag Run Coordinator
