AAMERICANS UNITED: FLAG THROUGH TEXAS UPDATE #6
TEXAS UPDATE FOR 23 OCT 2001 03:25 AM CDT

FELLOW FLAG RUNNERS AND LOGISTICAL SUPPORT PERSONNNEL:

We again thank you for your support and patience while we finalize the planning.

Runners: We still have weak coverage in portions of the route: MINEOLA TO TERRELL. We have plenty of runners for the Terrell through Dallas to the OK border. Also, the PANHANDLE needs runners. You can run again in as many areas as you like.
Pace: approx. 11-minute mile.

AMERICAN AIRLINES RUNNING CLUB AND ALL AA RUNNERS:
Please focus on Leg # 16-26. We NEED YOU there unless you are part of a group committed somewhere else along the route. Self-assign and email us which leg portion you can run.

UNITED AIRLINES, SOUTHWEST AIRLINES, AND ALL OTHER AIRLINES:
Please focus on Leg #45-48 unless you are part of a group already committed. If a POC from each airline can coordinate respective local employees, please email the Texas Team with POC contact info.

MILITARY UNITS, RUNNING CLUBS, AND OTHER GROUP RUNNERS:
The flag is 3’ x 5’ so try to have 2 runners covering one portion together if possible. This will help to trade the flag back and forth. If you are running long distances, try to bring your own energy

Individual runners: Due to sheer volume of emails, we are unable to reply individually to your requests. Sorry, we are a small staff working with a big state and a big pool of runners. Meet at base camp 1 hour prior to your selected run time. We will provide transportation back to your car. If you have a special request to run with someone, you will have to coordinate that with each other and pick the same leg # (see TX timeline).

Everyone runs the flag. Some areas will have crowds of runners, while some stretches will be small. All runners are “chosen” to run. Everyone gets a chance to carry the flag. In large groups it will be passed from runner to runner. We ask that you be courteous to your fellow runners and share in the pride of passing the flag around in large groups.

Support/Logistical Folks: We greatly appreciate your assistance in making this event happen.
Drivers. You will shuttle runners to/from cars. Times will be posted later today,
Base camps. If you volunteered for logistics, make a day or evening for your family at one of our base camps (see prior update for locations). Bring your friends and family, bagels for the runners, coffee for the long stretches. Report times will be posted later today.

FINAL COUNTDOWN. The flag arrives in 4 days. As the flag approaches, please check back periodically for updates. We are trying to reply to all your emails, but sheer numbers make this impossibility. Please continue to check back for daily updates as the flag nears. When in doubt, pick a spot and run, cheer, or help. HELP GIVE THE FLAG A TEXAS-SIZE WELCOME. FROM ALL THE VOLUNTEERS OF AMERICANS UNITED, TEXAS TEAM:

THANK YOU!
