Hi, I'm Joe Timpanaro
I ran the segment from Sun City West heading towards Wickenburg. When I first heard about the run, I thought to myself that I wasn't in the shape to run the distance that was needed to complete and be a part of a run that symbolized so much. I had been a runner in high school, but that was 4 years ago, but I felt that this was the chance of a lifetime to be part of something of this magnitude. I sent in my registration and decided on the day of the run to actually get out there and do my best to support America. I originally was supposed to be just part of the medical support for the run because I am a Firefighter/EMT for Tonopah Valley Fire Department in the far west valley of Phoenix. When I saw what was happening with all of the runners out there pouring their hearts into it I decided that no matter how bad it hurt to run I was going to be a part of this. I ended up running a 4 mile section with some very amazing people and I also found a flag that had fallen off of someone's car along the way and carried it with us as well. It was definitely an experience I'll never forget, and hopefully this country will never have to deal with the tragedy that struck on 9/11/01.
Sincerely,
Joe Timpanaro
