We did it!
November 11, 2001
All runners and volunteers, This is Kathy Connolly, Western AZ Coordinator, and I would like to say that we succesfully handed over the Flag to CA on the 9th as planned!
It is amazing how quickly the whole event came and went. When I left the RV, I felt as if I had lost one of my children. My sprit was up so high, I felt as if I could walk on water, but I also felt this empty pit in my stomach that the Flag was now gone. We had a job to do and we did it, we got that Flag to California on schedule. We had a few bumps and bruises along the way but we made it. I for one, feel very proud to have been a part of this magnificent event and would do it over again in a heartbeat.
I would like to mention that I work full-time, I bust my butt at work and every week I get a paycheck for my hard work. But 2 weeks before the Flag entered AZ, I basically worked day and night on nothing but the Flagrun and was constantly on the phone or sending emails about it. I am surprised they didn't fire me, however, the reward I got when the Flag finally came to Arizona was greater than any paycheck I have ever received! The people I met and the spirit of those people was and still is so great, it will never be equaled. Those people are all of you that registered to help - and were there!
Thank you from the bottom of my heart, you have lifted my spirits beyond the clouds. We couldn't have done it without all of you!
Fondest regards,
Kathy Connolly
PS. Everyone I talked to kept saying next year we'll have do this or next year we'll have to do that. Sadly enough, there is no next year for the Flagrun Across America, but rest assured that we will plan an event to comensurate this special event and everyone will be invited. Until then, please keep in touch.
