What a rush!! I got the opportunity to carry the flag with several other Marines from my unit, O btry, 5th Bn, 14th Marines, and D Co., 4th Tanks. We were there about 30 minutes before the flag arrived. We had others stuck in traffic who never made it. I feel sorry that they didn't get the chance to participate in this event. We saw the CHP lights about 1/4 mile south of us. The flag was transferred to me by a veteran. What better way to celebrate the 226th Marine Corps birthday than on a run with other Marines, carrying the U.S. Flag after it was passed by a Veteran. We ran the 6 mile stretch in formation, each Marine taking a turn carrying tha flag. A Army Veteran ran off to our side. We gave him a turn with the flag as we apporached the end of the last mile. It was great, the cadence, the camaraderie, the whole thing. Then it was over as we passed the flag to the next set of runners.
Semper Fidelis.
