Runners drove from Los Angeles and San Diego to run through the small city of Twentynine Palms, California. Marines from the Marine Corps Base came through as well. The Sergeant's course showed up platoon style singing cadence and showing the city how Marine's like to celebrate their 226th Birthday----supporting the call of freedom and honoring the victims of September 11th. I was so proud of them and the citizens that participated and those that supported this event.
It isn't a one time short term thing. It is an example of the spirit that the people of the United States carry everyday. We display our American spirit and pride in our daily lives in the way we work, in the way we raise our families, in the way we share with those less fortunate, and in the way we treat each other. The flagrun gave many people a chance to display their spirit another way.
American's are the least cynical most compassionate people on earth. September 11th reminded us that we are strong. We are strong because of our compassion and our resolve to defend freedom wherever and whenever we can and to believe, perhaps naively to some, that it is the right thing to do and that freedom will always win over tyranny.
Congratulations to all the participants and organizers of the flagrun for helping to keep the focus on the important things------freedom and family and the willingness to do whatever it takes to defend and protect both from every threat and against any odds. Let Freedom Ring and America will continue to be the beacon of hope for the world.
