Diary from Jill Richey-Rohan Flight Attendant JFK
I am not a runner, but as soon as I heard about the AA/UA FlagRun knew I had to participate. After contacting AA Capt. Frank LaCorte I was given the job of handing off some towels and blankets to Kathryn Malley in the Mobile Command RV as it passed through Darien, CT.
The FlagRun was scheduled to go through Darien at 2:30 a.m. Because of the hour I wasn't surprised to be standing alone in front of the Darien Sport Shop at 2AM. But after a few minutes AA F.O. Jeremy Noblin, AA Capt. Gunnar Edelstein, Darien resident Russell Ashcroft, and AA Capt. Kevin Daulong arrived and prepared to "run the flag" to Stamford. The flag arrived on schedule to the accompaniment of Lee Greenwood's "Proud to be an American" and sirens from the police escorts. Without missing a beat the runners changed and the parade headed for Stamford, CT.
Retired AA Captains Vinnie Felicella and Don Kreppein and their wives were waiting in Stamford to greet the runners with a huge flag. A group from the Stamford Yacht Club was also waiting; cheering and waving flags.
A great effort by all for a terrific project!
