Maryland Coordinator's Letter
October 11, 2001

Ladies and Gents,

I'm Brian Beach and I am your Maryland Coordinator. I just got this title today so I am running very hard to catch up. I have spoken with many of you by phone or email tonight. I want to thank Libby Young and Mary Fagerberg. Libby is going to help me with runners and Mary is burning the phone up getting the PD's,FD's and everyone she can to join us. If you want to help Libby, Mary or I, our numbers will be posted on the MD page of the website. Your response has been nothing but incredible. I want to bring you up on what we have and what we need. Runners are beginning to roll in. I will not turn anyone away who wants to run. The more the better. We have the border of PA/MD covered to Kilby Corner. We also have some other spots starting to be filled. I hope to have an update on here tomorrow. I am currently trying to get a map of the route with miles and times on the website. Once I can get that done, We will have a better look at where the holes are.

Here is what I would like to do. We have roughly 9 different cities along the route in MD. I would like to get at least 2 or 3 people who are willing to be primary runners who will stay for the entire stage. Then people can show up as secondary runners and fill in when ever they want. Look on the time line of Maryland and if any of you are willing to commit to this please let us know. If you have people who want to run, please have them sign up on the website. That is the best way we can get hold of them.

Some of the comments as of 11:30 tonight.

  1. We need cars and lots of them. People are getting stuck. We will have to work out driving and prepositioning a car if you have more than 1 person. I will work on a military van tomorrow from my old squadron and see what happens. Maybe they will be able to drive people who get stuck. More work in progress.
  2. Don't piss off local traffic on small roads. Let them pass by regularly.
  3. The run is going ahead of schedule. The media attention is growing and it's only going to get bigger.

If you have any comments or suggestions, by all means let us know. We are doing this as we go. I want to thank each and every one of you for stepping up to the plate and making this effort for a wonderful cause. This is what makes America the greatest place on earth. Each of you have my utmost respect and admiration. I will talk to you tomorrow.

Regards,

Brian Beach
