Mississippi Personal Diary: Leo Ladner and Rebecca Hudson-Ladner

First I heard of the Flag Run was Sunday Oct. 21. My husband Leo, an avid runner, informed me that he was on his way to help the pilots run through the state with the Flag.

Optimistic partner that I am, I clearly remember, thinking Lord give me the grace to ride support for yet another run. Sure enough, two days later I was driving north toward the middle of our State. We were looking for a community called Lawrence Mississippi on Hiway 80. We were the first to arrive and hoped we were in the right place. Then Garrick and his mother Betty Staples arrived at the local Post Office. After only a few words of welcome Leo and Garrick realized that they knew each other. They both are employees of BellSouth. Leo has known Garrick's Uncle Jack for over twenty years, small world. An American Airlines Pilot from LA named Ben flew to Jackson and drove out to meet the Flag.

When the Pine Belt Pacer Ladies arrived we knew we were in business. The small community turned out with their children to wish us well. Even the local gas station owner opened his facilities for us it was around 8.45 pm. I made sure to thank them all as soon as the Flag was on its way West.

There is not enough space even on the net for me to thank all those folks who came out to support us in the night , but please allow me to attempt just that. The people of Lawrence, Garrick and Betty Staples, Ben AAL Pilot , The history teacher, The Tyson Driver, All the Church People along the route, The Raytheon workers, and the ladies at Lake Grocery. I will never forget the Gentle Man standing alone in the dark night to give a donation to the runners. Thank you to the State and County Law enforcement officers and the many people of Forrest who were waiting. Thanks from the support teams that had the privilege to network with, these people who came in the night to pay tribute to our Flag. Most of all thanks to all the pilots and attendants who had the courage to undertake such a task. Thank you for making Mississippi and The United States proud.

God Speed
Peace
