I ran with most of my running group and some people that I hadn't met. My first feeling was of anticipation to finally be able to do something positive in light of the tragedy of what had happened on September 11, 2001.
Like most Americans, I was in a state of shock and just wanted to be able to help in any way possible. Since I am unable to give blood and am not am EMT, Fireman or Policeman, running was the one thing that I could give back to.
As we took the flag at around 2:15 PM on October 17, it was a feeling of great pride to be able to run and be a small part of such a large event. As we ran we talked with the other people and found out their connections with this event, we had military, commercial pilots, teachers, software engineers, homemakers and just about anything else you can think of. By the end of the run we were all one force working for the greater cause of keeping the American Spirit alive.
I want to thank the organizers of this event for letting anyone come out and run, and even though they had to slow me down a few times it was great to see the response as people passed us in their vehicles and waved.
If you ever need more help and have another run going another route you know who to call. I actually changed a tattoo because of what happened on 9/11/01.
One for each arm.
