In God We Trust, United We Stand
I am currently living in Allen, TX, just North of Dallas, and on October 27, my 10 year old daughter, Jourdyn, and I jumped in the crowd, and ran about a mile with the flag in Dallas. Just that one mile, while carrying the flag, I felt I was carrying the whole country on my shoulder. Although I knew I was a designated runner in my home town of Texico, NM, I couldn't resist getting out and running with the group as I watched the flag approach in Dallas. I can't explain it in words...I am so thankful I had the opportunity to participate in the American United Flag Across America event. The first time I heard of the event, I was extremely exited to hear the flag would enter NM, my home state, through Texico, a little town where my mother still lives right on Hwy 60. The flag would be run right past my mother's home, where me and my 11 brothers and sisters grew up!!
I first called my sister Olivia, who is a Tribal Police Officer in NM, and of course she said she would come home to participate. I then called my sister Valda, who recently moved back to Texico, and gave her the details. Next, I called my sister Elizabeth, who lives in Clovis, just 8 miles East of Texico. We all decided to take on the challenge, and run the 10 miles from Texico to Clovis, as a family.
I ended up leaving from Dallas, on Wednesday, October 31 after work, with my husband, Jonathan, and 4 children, Jourdyn, Isiah, Justice, and Jeremiah. We arrived in Texico, NM about 0730 MST on Thursday, the day of the event. That morning I ended up passing out flyers I made about the event. At noon, my sister Valda, and I had a meeting with the Chief of Police in Texico, Chief Brophy. We discussed the event, and got the Texico ceremony mapped out. My sister Valda, is the reason the flag had such a great reception in Texico. She organized the whole Texico activity, got the police department, Texico Schools, as well as the whole community involved. I can't express the awesome job she did for the community of Texico. The flag arrived in Texico around 1630hrs, we had the brief ceremony, and then off we were on our way to Clovis. Participating in the run to Clovis, were my following family members: my sister Valda Walls, her children, Jayia, Jazzi, Oscar, and Jonah Walls, my sister Elizabeth Sisneros, her children Jonathan Sisneros and Janelle Adrian, my sister Olivia Cavallero and also, my children, Jourdyn, Isiah, and Justice.
I want to thank the following for their support in making the Texico reception possible: Texico H.S Band, Mr. Rusty Rucker, Chief Brophy and the Texico Police Dept., Dr. Richards and the Texico Public Schools, Othena Smith and Crossroads Motel, David and Jennifer Johnson, Tammy Jones and Pansies Posies and Potpourri. When you were asked to help out, there was no hesitation. Thank you all for your awesome support.
I want to thank Dee and Ruth Friesen and Lauri Cummings for their tireless effort in coordinating the whole NM events. Thank you for letting me have the honor of participating in this historical event.
I took on the challenge with my family to complete the 10 miles. Carrying the flag, was an awesome honor all by itself, but being able to have some of my family participate with me, gives it a greater honor beyond words. There are thousands in our country, because of the horrible events that took place on September 11, 2001, lost a niece, a nephew, a brother, a sister, a mother, a father. I am very Blessed to have run the flag with my nieces, nephews, brothers, sisters, and mother, in honor of those who were killed and whose families that are mourning their loss.
"Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted." Matthew 5:4
God Bless America,
