4 November 2001:
On Nov 1, 2001, I celebrated my 65th birthday. What a fabulous honor and priviledge it was for me to help carry the American and New Mexico State flag from Fort Sumner to Yeso, NM., on the next day. Thank You Michael G. for your wonderful diary account of the run comming into Ft. Sumner.
I am extremely proud to admit to the fact that I was the one who saluted the flag by the light of the full New Mexico moon that night, as you worked your way through the desert to Fort Sumner. It brought back wonderful memories of the 10 years I served in the US Air Force.
When your group and the flags arrived in Fort Sumner it was great to be able to meet and shake the hands of the US Air Force men and women from Cannon AFB in Clovis,NM , who had driven the escort vechicles all night long to assist and protect the runners. Thanks also to all the local law enforcement officers who escorted the flag across our great country.
