Information Update No. 7 October 31
- Finally we are less than 24 hours from the New Mexico portion of the
AAmericans United Flag Run. Many people have put in a lot of time and
effort to make this event in New Mexico a success. I am confident that it
will be exciting, uplifting and fun. I do not know where to begin my
thanks so I will simply say thank you to everyone. This event could not
occur without each of you.
- The Flag is on schedule to arrive at Texico at 1630 MDT tomorrow
November 1, 2001. There are a few minor changes to the time line that I
have passed on to the national web master and they should be posted by
tomorrow. The changes are after the VLA Night Owl Run. The schedule for
the rest of the state is as posted.
- All runners please note:
- All designated runners (runners on the schedule) must bring a signed
waiver form to the staging area. Forms are available on the
www.flagrun2001.org site. If you do not have a printer, we will give you a
waiver at the staging area.
- The designated runners schedule and staging areas are posted on the web
page, NM link. Please read the runners instructions posted there.
- IF YOUR NAME IS NOT ON THE DESIGNATED SCHEDULE, DO NOT WORRY, YOU CAN
STILL RUN. Due to the logistics required to schedule additional runners,
we are unable to assign you to a specific time and place to run. However,
we encourage you to come and run with us at the time and place of your
choosing, for the amount of time you want. We especially could use
additional runners in the remote areas. If you go to one of the designated
staging areas, check in with the driver and we will transport you to the
flag for your run. We will then take you back to the staging area. You
may join the run at a place other than a designated staging area if it is
more convenient for you.
- Please bring your own food and water. Also note that restroom
facilities will not be provided: no port-a-potty in the convoy!
- Run carefully and proudly carry our flag.
- Noteworthy in Albuquerque
- Flag arrives at Tramway and Central at 1406 (2:06) MDT.
- Our convoy will be escorted by a police car in front followed by a fire
truck all the way through
the city. Behind our convoy will be another fire truck.
- A ceremony will be held around 7 PM at Civic Plaza. A large fire truck,
its ladder extended, with a flag hanging from the ladder, will greet the
flag runners. Speakers will include the family of the Alamogordo flight
attendant killed in the September 11 events, and US Representative Heather
Wilson.
- Let the fun begin!
