We stood on the steep hill in front of the company we work for and gazed into the sunlight trying to catch even the smallest glimpse of flashing lights or event better yet....the American Flag. There were probably 40 or 50 people anxious to show their Oklahoma pride for this great country of ours.
I heard people whispering...."I wish I had brought my flag" or "I am so emotional, I think I will cry." We even considered breaking out into a chorus of "God Bless America", but the excitement of the moment escaped us.
I think the tragedy of Sept 11 has taken a little out of each and every American citizen. Thanks to all of the patriotism and pride, perhaps we can regain our composure and go on with life. More aware of our surroundings, more cautious and with more pride than we have ever had.
We suffered terribly in Oklahoma when The Murrah building was bombed. We know the hurt, anxiety and suffering that can only come from the loss of precious life.
Your efforts to retrace this route of Flight 11 and the origin of the flag you are carrying is so touching and meaningful that I could ramble on for days.
I won't though. But I am one of the lucky ones that will see "Old Glory" again this evening.
Let me say from my co-workers and myself that you are also heroes.
God Bless You! God Bless America!
