When my grandson, age 2 1/2, asked "why that man drove the plane into the building?", I knew that his future would be different than the one his mother had grown up it. I am sure that many parents and grandparents in the Oklahoma City area asked the same question that I did What can I do? When a co-worker heard about the run on the radio I knew what I would do. The day arrived that I would get my chance to carry our great Flag across the city that I love. The original destination and time that I was to run did not work out but then I heard that I could join in the RUN in a part of the City that I am very familiar with, near my mother's home. What a joy it was to share this with her, my husband and other family members. The group that I joined in with was the Cross Country Team from McGinnis High School. What a great group of young people. When I asked if they minded if I carried the flag , they said "Pass the flag to mama"-I was, shall we say, a few years older than they were. I knew that I would not be able to keep the pace for a long distance that they was running . Soon they pulled ahead of me and what a sight it was to see the flag going on toward it's goal - LA. What a moment that was for me. I shall never forget and shall always count it as one of the great moments in my life. I check the progress each day and try to imagine the runners in the other parts of the country and I only hope that their experience brings them the same joy that mine brought to me. Thank you to all the individuals who worked to bring the flag through the heart of our city.
