What a wonderful opportunity to carry the American Flag!
I ran the last leg in Oklahoma to hand off to Texas on October 30th & 31st. As we entered Texola, a lady was standing beside her car singing 'God Bless America' and holding a poster of the American Flag. She was the only person there at 1:00am to cheer us on and truely an inspiration! She could have stayed home that being much more convenient and safe at 1:00am. An overwhelming question occurred to me after seeing her dedication, 'Am I worthy of the sacrifices that have been given for this country? the lives that where torn up and those that were lost?' I then asked myself... if the people that are presently fighting and those who have fought for this country, knew me... would they think that their sacfices were worth my life? Do I live a life that is worth another person sacrificing theirs for? someone that doesn't even know me? I believe that the lady at Texola would sacrifice and quite possibly has already. God Bless Her! I now have an even greater appreciation of the sacrifices made for me, my family and the people of this country. I now feel that it is not 'their job' (military, government leaders) to save our country or bear the burden of the outcomes. It is my job and your job! Thanks for the opportunity to grow and get insight into my responsibilities! No other lesson has come quite as quickly and clearly as this one!
May God Bless the Family and Friends of those who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001. To those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001, there are no words that can describe the sacrifices that you made.....
