TEXAS UPDATE FOR Fri 10/26/2001 00:34 AM CDT
DEAR FELLOW AMERICANS, YOU DID IT! We asked for your help, and you sent the emails and made the calls... it is official...the flag will be run through the AA Center. The details are still underway, but sometime Saturday night (near 8pm), the flag will make its way in honor of all victims and families of September 11th. When you contacted the Dallas Mayor's Office, the support was immediate. The Mayor's Office was thrilled to be able to help support the Dallas effort. Since we had tried to coordinate all efforts without invoking the political angle, your calls and emails were the first ones they received. THANK YOU. And Thank you to the Mayor for a quick show up support. We have not heard from other elected officials, in part, because I asked you to stop writing. I felt that I was not specific in my initial plea. Before you wrote further, I wanted you to know that we had not formally asked any politicians because we are grassroots, a movement by the people, and we we’re not trying to invoke any political clout (especially since we have none). As a result, I did not want any contacted official to in any way feel alienated from the effort. Again, this is about Americans uniting. I do not want in any way to discourage you from inviting your elected officials to Flag Across America. Just know that it might be the first they are hearing of it, since the media has been uninterested in our story until your calls started pouring in: THANK YOU. We are now driving to the border to take the handoff from Louisiana at 10:30am tomorrow morning. Any official that you invite to Flag Run is welcome to join in at the American Airlines Center in downtown Dallas on Saturday night. I cannot begin to adequately express my supreme gratitude for your efforts. In the final hour, YOU PULLED US THROUGH. We would still love to see the Dallas area map of the Flag’s route appear in every paper possible. They do not even need to contact us. All the info is on the website at the Texas page. One note on Texas Stadium: I have been told today that there is great support by the Dallas Cowboy Football Club. However, the day was too short for me to personally make all the appropriate calls to get the official approval. There were so many things to finish on this last day of preparation, and there are still “many miles (literally) to go, before I sleep…” But when I do, I will be counting y’all in my prayers of gratitude. As the Texas coordinators, we have done all that we can. Now it is time to start running. Bring your friends out Saturday night. I will see you at the Flag. And from the bottom of my heart, ENDLESS THANKS. Laura Joyce Hubbard |
