Dear Americans United Flag Across America Participant:

I am Captain Mark Hunnibell (AAL) and have been serving as the webmaster for the event in which you have been so supportive and interested. I am sending this e-mail from the offices of the Parker Area Chamber of Commerce, in Arizona, which is a stone’s throw across the Colorado river from California, the last state on our 3,800+ mile trek. The flag is nearing its destination and I wanted to go over a couple of technical issues with you in this message before we arrive on Dockweiler Beach and celebrate the completion of the run.

  1. We are exploring the possibility of providing “real-time” video streaming over the Internet of the final hour of the run. If you are interested in trying to watch the arrival of the flag in Los Angeles from about 1:30-2:30PM PST (4:30-5:30PM EST), please click on the link below for more information:

    http://www.flagrun2001.org/video.finale.html

  2. In addition to the possibility of “real-time” video streaming of the conclusion of this event, we have received a generous offer from an Atlanta video company to serve, via the Internet, previously recorded video. If you have video of the events in your towns or cities and would like to submit it for possible inclusion in our video record, for streaming and CD, please click on this link for more information:

  3. We are aware of some problems people have had in ordering t-shirts on-line. I believe we are over the bumps. I have spoken to the President of the Miller Company and personally clicked through the process of ordering shirts and it worked. Please bear in mind that the software being used to order shirts is pre-packaged and customization is limited. I am told that in addition to Adult Extra Large and Large, they also now have a stock of Adult Medium, Youth Small (6-8), Youth Medium (10-12), and Youth Large (14-16).

  4. We welcome the submission of photographs you may have taken as you participated in, or simply observed, the event. NOTE! Please read the information on our Photos Submission page before sending pictures:

    http://www.flagrun2001.org/photos.submit.html

  5. If you would like to see your personal observations of the event included in our diary, please e-mail your comments to diaries@flagrun2001.org. If you have photos to go with your comments, please submit BOTH together according to the instructions on the Photo Submission page.

  6. The web site, www.flagrun2001.org, will not remain operational indefinitely. However, before it is shut down, we will archive all the contents onto a CD and will find a way to make that CD available at a later date. We are also researching the possibility of archiving and collating all the television news reports we saw as we crossed the country and making them available on CD or DVD.

  7. Immediately following the celebration and reception in Los Angeles, I will be returning home (for the first time in a month) and will be “off-line” for two weeks. Thus, for those of you who have experienced the prompt action and replies, please bear with me as I try to take care of my home and family that have sacrificed so much so that I could do this. Your e-mails will be saved and I will deal with them at the end of November. If you believe you have a critical issue, please address it to topdog@flagrun2001.org.

Thank you very much for your participation in this wonderful event. It’s clear from your communications that it’s been a rewarding experience for everyone. I want to make one last plea that, if you haven’t yet donated to our fund, please donate now. The families of the airline victims of the tragedy of September 11, 2001 will be on hand in Los Angeles and we would very much like to make our fund proceeds be commensurate with the ultimate sacrifice suffered by their loved ones. Please go here now and donate:
