Folks, Here are some directions for the DC area. I'll update periodically once I do more Recon. The route has the group coming down Route 1 thru College Park in MD. Route 1 then turns right onto Rhode Island Ave in Washington. Stay on RI ave all the way to Scott Circle. Go arround Scott Circle and south on 16th Street straight to the White house at Layfayete Square. At Layfayette Square, turn left (east) onto I street, and then a right turn (south) onto 14th street to Penn Ave. Turn left onto Penn Ave and head straight to the Capitol. At the Capitol turn right onto 1st Street SW just before the Capitol. This road will allow us to approach the base of the Capitol on the west side where we can stop for a few words or prayer. From then we will proceed back west on the Mall heading towards the Washington Monument and Lincoln Memorial where we will cross the Memorial bridge on the south sidewalk. This takes us into VA where Gary (aacoach@juno.com) takes over. If you plan to continue into VA, please contact Gary. I expect Gary to take a left onto the running trail which leds down the GW parkway past National Airport and on south. IMPORTANT: Transportation from the finish line to the start will be an issue! If you can use Metro. An option is to meet the runners near the College Park Metro as they head south on route 1 (Baltimore Ave). Then take the metro back to college park at the end of the DC run by getting on the Foggy Bottom Metro. Another option is to park your car in the Mount Raineer neighborhood off of RI Ave near the DC line and run with us and take the Foggy Bottom metro on the way back West Hyattsville metro stop where you can run back to your car. We will attempt to stage vehicles at both ends to accomodate as many as we can but expect delays. Don't worry about having to run the whole way. An RV will be following you and you can drop off for a rest anytime. Thanks for your help and God Bless you all. Tom D'Agostino |
