Flag Run PrayerRead aloud at the Nation's Capitol, October 15, 2001
Lord, we come to you today to praise you as the sovereign ruler of the universe. You are wisdom, you are love, you are justice, and you are mercy. You are our healer, our comforter, our protector, and our restorer.
Lord we ask you this morning to bring healing to this land and especially to all the families of those that are still grieving the loss of loved ones from the tragic events of September 11th.
Be with President Bush and those advising him. Grant them wisdom and patience as they chart a course through these troubled waters. Be with our men out in the front lines of battle; protect them, comfort them, and grant them courage for the task at hand. Be with our intelligence agents; grant them cooperation from sources around the world - nations bound together in a common cause to root out perpetrators of treachery wherever it exists.
What was meant for evil, we ask you to use for our good. Use these tragic events to turn this country around. Thank you for the renewed sense of morality, of brotherhood, and the vision of freedom-for-all that will allow your blessing to remain upon this nation. Forgive us when we have fallen short.
No matter what the circumstances, help us all understand that you are still in control. We ask you to restore a sense of security to our country and to our skies, knowing that it is in you alone that we may find true security.
And finally, thank you for this opportunity to run a good race. Watch over this flag and the people who carry it as it travels across this great country.
In your holy name, we humbly ask you, God, to once again bless America. Amen.
