DC Update #3 Sat 10/13/2001 2:17 PM EST
Folks,
I need help from any of you out there who have media contacts!! I've had
just a moderate amount of interest from the DC TV stations on this event
and am concerned that they are not taking it seriously. As you can see
from the links below this is big. If there are any of you out there who
can pass this to a contact within CBS, NBC, Fox, NPR, or any other news
outlets please do so. Page me at 888-555-5555 or email me at
thomasdagostino@hotmail.com with your contacts so we can get the word out.
Many thanks
The group is still heading south and is on track.
I just rode through our route in DC and here is what I have to report.
- For those that can meet at the MD DC line, we will meet on the North
Side (left side as you are heading out of town) of RI Ave. at the DC line.
This is where Eastern Ave. cross RI Ave. There is an abandoned Gas
station there that will make for the perfect Meeting spot. It would be
nice to have a good crowd there as the MD runner’s hand off the flag.
- If you are going to meet at the RI Metro stop, you are only 1.9 miles
away from the border so we will be there 19 minutes from the time we get
the flag
- For those people coming to run before daybreak, consider
wearing light colored clothes and any reflecting gear that you may have.
- Consider bringing a small flashlight.
- There are no water stops along the route so make sure to
drink plenty of fluids before coming out. There are a few public restrooms
along the way (near the Washington Monument) so you should not have too
many problems.
- Be particularly careful during the run as there will be some
areas undergoing construction.
- Be courteous to your fellow runners. There are a total of
nine miles in the District and plenty of opportunities for everyone to
carry the Flag.
- Be advised that the Metro opens on weekdays at 5:30 am. Any
folks participating in the run who wish to Metro over to Rhode Island
Avenue TOGETHER can meet outside the The Department of Energy, Forrestal
Building lobby at 10th St. & Independence Ave., SW, at 5:15 am; or at 5:25
am at the L'Enfant Plaza Metro Station at 7th. Fred Butterfield will lead
a group onto the Metro at that times.
One last thing, Take a look at the CT icon on the home page. The
photograph you see there should inspire you. If any of you out there has a
digital camera, please bring it along and snap a few photos. We'll see if
we can top that CT photo with a DC photo.
Again, thanks to all of you. I will write one more update to the DC
homepage tomorrow (Sunday the 14th) to finalize our arrangements and to let
you know how the group is coming along.
God Bless you all,
Tom D'Agostino
