AAMERICANS UNITED: FLAG THROUGH TEXAS UPDATE #7
TEXAS UPDATE FOR 24 OCT 2001 10:39 AM CDT

TO RECAP AND CLARIFY FOR RUNNERS:

Group runners. Work with your club president, military liaison, or equivalent for your guidance.

Individual runners.

Overview. The TX route is divided into 3 sections: The East Leg, The North Leg (Dallas to OK), and the Panhandle Leg. The legs have “base camps” which are logistical staging points (SEE TX TIMELINE). You will also see from the TX route map that it is numbered with yellow squares. These are points of reference for timing only. They are not base camps. The 10 base camps are noted on the map with red numbers and on the timeline with bold caps.

Your role. You have told us if you are running the East, the North, or the Panhandle Leg. You have told us what base camp you are reporting to. You have decided which exact portion of the route you are running.

“How does this work?” Based on where you have decided to run, and whom you have decided to run with, report to the base camp one-hour prior to the start of your run time. Drivers will be at the base camp to drive you to the portion of the run that you have self-appointed. Drivers will also be available to transport you back to your car at the base camp when the portion of your run is complete. We are not able to assign specific runners to specific miles. If you want to run with someone, or hand the flag off to someone, you must coordinate this on your own. Based on where you all have told us you are running, we have enough runners to cover the mileage from Louisiana to Oklahoma.

“What base camp do I report to?” Reference the TX timeline for specific map points.

EXAMPLE:"I want to run as the flag goes through Forney, my hometown! Forney is map point #28. Map point 28 reports to the Terrell Base Camp. I should be at the Terrell Base Camp at 1506 hrs (3:06 PM) to be there one hour prior to the Sunnyvale time of 1606 hrs (4:06 PM) on the Texas timeline. I’ll be there!!"

We hope this answers all your questions. We thank you for your patience, flexibility, and commitment to Flag Across America. This is our plan to cover the many miles and long nights through our great state. Please stay flexible and arrive early if you choose. The base camps will serve as meeting points for towns to gather and wait for the Flag. Bring your family, your friends, and a picnic. Tell your friends to line the route!!

THANK YOU FROM YOUR TEXAS TEAM!
